As principals, we are always looking for opportunities to see our students and teachers succeed. This year, our 2nd grade team ASTOUNDED me! Mrs. Archdale, Mrs. Hockman, and Mrs. Pyle developed an interdisciplinary unit for math, literacy and social studies for their students. Local restaurant owners and bankers visited classrooms on how to start their own business. Then the students wrote business plans, applied for positions, made commercials and menus before inviting family and friends to their cafés for lunch. Guests commented on the students’ impeccable manners and service as students served as hosts, cooks, busboys and waiters. Their efforts raised more than $600 for classroom technology and books while providing a relevant and meaningful learning experience.
